Abstract

In Argentina's recent history, the emergence of external constraint reflected the incompatibility of sustaining a process of economic growth while elevating purchasing power of workers wages without experiencing problems of imbalances in the external sector. This paper will attempt to frame these limits within a framework of dependency relationships that structure the world economy in core, semi-peripheral and peripheral countries. Since the transformations of the world system in the last forty years have brought an update and improvement of the mechanisms by which the surplus is transferred from the peripheral economies to the central economy, Synthetic Index Transfer Surplus will be developed that will characterize the capital outflows in Argentina in the period 1970-2013. So, we will try to link the re-emergence of the external constraint to the structural characteristics of the economy and its relationship to the global economy and the transfer of surplus.
